For parents and custodians: Under the Illinois Uniform Transfers to Minor Act, a minor account is set up with one person over the age of 18 as the custodian of the account and the child as the owner. A successor custodian may also be named. Only the custodian may access the account. Once the child reaches the age of 18 and wants to assume control of the account, we ask that the custodian to come in with the child to restructure the account titling.
